In April 1985, two Western teenagers, Nicola Myers and Kenneth McBride, were found brutally beaten to death in a country park on Hong Kong’s Braemar Hill.  Students at Hong Kong Island School, the teenagers had been studying for their “A-level” examinations when they were set upon by a gang of Chinese youths, who tied Kenneth up and beat him, and raped, beat, and tortured Nicola.

The discovery of the bodies by a jogger set off a massive police manhunt, with more than 300 officers combing the hillside for clues.  Eventually, a HK$500,000 reward was offered for information about the killers, resulting in a police were tip-off about the leader of the youth gang. Five young Chinese men were arrested, ranging in age from 24 to 15 years old; they were tried, found guilty, and the eldest were sentenced to life in prison.

apv's "the double kidnap of teddy wang" debuts on c&i PDF Print E-mail

APV's crime documentary, The Double Kidnap of Teddy Wang makes its on-air debut Sunday, 22 November on the Crime & Investigation Network.

The Double Kidnap Of Teddy Wang
Premieres 22 Nov, Sunday 9pm
Encores 23 Nov Mon 9am & 3pm, 25 Nov Wed 9pm, 26 Nov Thu 9am & 3pm, 28 Nov Sat 1pm
Hong Kong billionaire Teddy Wang was kidnapped not once, but twice – in 1983, and again in 1990.  The first time, he was released after his wife Nina paid a record US$11 million in ransom; the second time, he was not so lucky, and even though this time Nina paid US$30 million in ransom, his kidnappers dumped him overboard from a fishing boat in the South China Sea.
After his death, his widow assumed control of the couple’s real estate empire, all the while insisting that he was not dead. His father-in-law sued her for control of Teddy’s estate, and although she lost in court twice, she eventually won a “battle of the wills” and the entire estate. Her death last year, however, has triggered another estate battle, this time, pitting her relatives, her company’s charitable foundation, and her personal confidante, feng shui master Tony Chan, all of whom have signed wills giving them her multi-billion dollar fortune.

The programme is part of C&I's "Crime Investigation Asia" series, which has recently begun its broadcast run on the channel.  From C&I:
